VANDALIA — The Butler boys soccer team took on CJ this past weekend as they opened their 2015 season. Butler had their most successful year to date last season, and looked to start the new season off on the right foot.

Both the Aviators and Eagles played physical and limited shots for their opponent. After a defensive battle, the Aviators pull out a 2-1 victory over the Eagles in an intense battle.

The first half began slowly, with both teams playing great defense and limiting scoring chances. Both teams have a reputation for playing physical, and this contest was no different.

The Eagles struck first 22 minutes into the game off an excellent pass and shot over goalkeeper Eric King to give CJ a 1-0 lead. The Aviators trailed for the next 15 minutes of the first half, but Terrance Engle scored on an assist by Nathan Weber to tie the score at 1-1 with five minutes left in the half.

The second half was a defensive battle with both teams showing their physicality with the score still knotted at 1-1.

After many missed shots throughout the second half, the Aviators’ Terrance Engle struck again for Butler, thrusting them into the lead by a score of 2-1.

Butler finished strong and closed out the Eagles to move to 1-0 on the season.
