Writer supports VBCSD levy renewal

The schools truly hold up our community. Our kids thrive when the community morale is positive. I know kids can feel the tension when they are not supported. We don’t pay taxes for education to support our own children in the district, but to support everyone. Great schools increase property values, decrease crime, encourage families and other residents to stay and be engaged in the community.

That being said, we are thankful and grateful when the levy funds are put to great use. When my son was in 1st grade, the levy failed, a lot was not able to be offered to he and his classmates. Now he is a 5th Grader and the funds are back in place, a lot has been brought back. The classroom sizes are smaller. I can’t imagine a teacher trying to teach over 30 children. This isn’t fair to the kids, nor the teacher. Field trips were brought back. Children need to learn outside of the classrooms. Extracurricular activities were brought back such as art, gym, and music. These classes are not only good for educational development, but creativity and much more. Studies have shown children do better when these classes are in the school.

If you must choose where to apply your money, skip the fundraisers and vote YES for this renewal. This money which we are already paying today will continue to help the schools more than any single fundraiser. Support of this renewal allows the schools to keep trending upwards. I support what the district has been doing with the funds to benefit our children. I am so appreciative of our teachers and We need our great teachers to remain engaged. Our children deserve this. The schools have been such a great experience for us and that is why we chose the Vandalia-Butler Schools and not a private school.
