VANDALIA — The Vandalia Lions Club recently presented awards for its 2015 Peace Poster contest to students of St. Christopher School in Vandalia.

The 2015 – 2016 theme was “Share Peace.” 34 sixth grade art students submitted entries which were judged on originality, artistic merit and expression of theme.

The contest encourages children 11 – 13 to creatively express what peace means to them. It also allows students to share their unique image of peace with others so that we may all have greater tolerance and international understanding.

Local winners were:

  • First place – Alyson Wade
  • Second place – Emily Bellar
  • Third place – Stella Haws

Honorable mention were Lydia Martin, Katie Bonifas, Caitlyn McCready, and Jade Gallegos (not shown)

“My painting shows war ending,” said Wade. “The two people from opposing teams both male and female symbolize we are equal in God’s eye. A hug represents two different people agreeing on peace.”

The Vandalia Lions Club has been serving the Vandalia Butler area since 1942. We are excited about this youth program and St. Christopher School’s 10 year of participation.
