Vandalia-Butler teachers to receive McDonald’s MAC Grant

Staff Report

DAYTON — On Monday, November 9 McDonald’s Restaurants of the Miami Valley will award more than $40,000 to 92 local teachers as part of the 2015 Make Activities Count (MAC) grants program.

The local teachers that will be awarded on Monday include:

• Kate Brookshire, Morton Middle School

• Mirinda Roberts, Helke Elementary

• Kristina Sucher, Helke Elementary

A ceremony will be held at 5:30 p.m. at the Ray and Joan Kroc Center in Dayton to recognize the winning teachers. MAC grants are designed to support hands-on activities as a supplement to classroom curriculum for students in kindergarten through eighth grade.

“The continued support of our local communities remains a foundational pillar for the McDonald’s owner/operators of the Miami Valley,” said Jeremy Hamilton, president of McDonald’s Restaurants of the Miami Valley. “Through the MAC grants program, we’re able to directly give back to the students, teachers and communities in our neighborhoods to help engage students and teachers in a lifelong passion for learning.”

Teachers across the Miami Valley were encouraged to participate in the application and selection process by submitting a proposal for their classroom idea.

Over the last 13 years, the McDonald’s Restaurants of the Miami Valley have awarded more than half a million dollars to support supplemental classroom projects. This year’s winning classrooms will pursue projects covering curriculum areas like reading, science, history, music and more.
