VANDALIA — Stella Williams, a member of the Vandalia Lions Club, spoke at the Club’s September 28 dinner meeting. The topic was her almost life-long hobby of Matchbook Collecting, which was influenced by her mother’s collecting from places visited in the early 1940’s.

There are many themes, such as presidential inaugurations, trucks, hotels, military, and many others. At one time many companies in the United States made match covers, but now there are only three, although many other countries still produce the covers. Stella married another collector, who passed three years ago, so her combined collection now is over 20,000, all preserved in albums and showcases.
