VANDALIA — The following is important information for parents and students in the Vandalia-Butler City Schools:

ACT and SAT Test Dates

The first ACT for the 2017-2018 school year will be on Saturday, Sept. 9. Regular and late registration deadlines have passed.

The next SAT will be on Saturday, Oct. 7. Registration deadline is September 8.

Flight Night/College Prep Night

Butler High School will be hosting its first annual College Prep Night on Monday, Sept. 18, from 6 to 8:30 p.m. There will be sessions for all grade levels to help parents and students begin the college and career planning process. Families will have the opportunity to attend at least four different sessions related to college and career planning. Topics include: Financial Aid, Career Resources, NCAA Eligibility, MVCTC, Military options, ACT vs SAT, and more. Also, you will have the opportunity to visit the CCRC (College and Career Resource Center) in room 104 and learn how students have opportunities available throughout the school year to obtain information and assistance with career search and planning, college search, completion of college applications, guidance with college application essays, developing a resume, and ACT & SAT practice.

Butler parent-teacher conferences

Butler parent-teacher conferences are on Thursday, Sept. 21, from 3:00 to 6:30 p.m. (Some calendars have them incorrectly listed as September 14.) Sign up for conferences by contacting Mrs. Cindy Snyder (937-415-6309) in our Guidance Department. I encourage you to bring your daughter/son with you for the conferences.

Rachel’s Challenge

While her life was tragically cut short during the Columbine High School shooting on April 20, 1999, Rachel Joy Scott’s shining example of kindness and compassion was not defeated that day. You are invited to hear the inspiring true story about one girl’s dream to change the world. The presentation is a powerful reminder of the little things we can do every day to make our world a better place. All parents and students (7th grade and up) are invited to the presentation at Morton Middle School cafeteria on Tuesday, Sept. 12, 6 – 7 p.m. Babysitting will be provided in their media center. For more information, visit www.rachelschallenge.org.

Muse Machine registration opens

Online registration is now open for students to join MUSE Machine. Interested students should go to www.musemachine.com. Once there, hover over “Students” and click on “Become a Member,” click on the banner for schools A-L, and then click on the Butler High School banner. You can fill out the form, choose your level of membership, and pay online, all in one place. Student members will be treated to four in-school performances this year, which is a great and inexpensive way to see quality, professional performances in areas of voice, instrument, and dance. Please join as soon as possible as students must join before the first performance in October.
