Longleys publish chapter in educational book

VANDALIA — Vandalia-Butler’s very own art teacher, Kevin Longley and his wife Carrie recently co-wrote a chapter in a new book, “Best Practices In Online Teaching Across Academic Disciplines.”

The Longley’s are both active as online and in-person professors at Indiana University East. They wrote in cooperation with all the Humanities and Science Department professors at the proposition of IUE’s Dean, Dr.Ross Alexander.

“We really hope this book helps more art educators consider delivering art pedagogy in an online setting, because this would allow more students to gain access to arts education. With the transforming technology I think (online education) would allow us to have a bigger impact on a wider range of students,” said Kevin Longley.

Kevin Longley developed and teaches a Fundamental Studio Drawing course online for IUE, which allowed him to collaborate with his wife Carrie on their chapter in the book.

“Being featured in this book is definitely a proud professional achievement for my wife and I,” said Kevin Longley. “It gives us the ability to inform other art educators about the new capabilities of teaching the visual arts in an online setting.”

The book was released in May 2017 by George Mason University Press.
