VANDALIA — The Vandalia Senior Center is once again hosting a Summer History Series on Monday afternoons at 1 p.m. The series is free and open to the public.
Mayor Arlene Setzer will present on July 24. Setzer has been the Mayor of Vandalia since 2011.
Her political career began on the Vandalia City Council during the years of 1982 through 2000. She was also the Vice Mayor from 1985 to 1988 and again from 1995 to 2000. Ms. Setzer represented the 36th district in the Ohio House of Representatives from 2001 to 2008.
Setzer will reflect on her political career at both the local and state levels. Come hear about the races that she lost. Find out what propelled her into campaigning for a state position. Learn about her insights into politics including some surprises and frustrations during her career.
On July 31 Lynne Hanson, Vice President of Collections and Research at the Boonshoft Museum, will talk about the pre-contact history of Ohio. This is the 10,000 years before the Europeans arrived when the Madisonville, Fort Ancient, Woodland, Paleoindian, and Archaic Native Peoples lived here. Lynn will explore how people adapted to the geographic location, their social networks, burial customs, and ideology.
