CHICAGO — Last week in Chicago, Illinois, 32 St. Christopher Parish partnered with a mission organization called Young Neighbors in Action in order to serve the communities in West Chicago. The parishioners were broken up into seven service groups, each serving a different parish or cause.
The mission group sent to St. Malachy’s Precious Blood church spent the week participating in hard labor, playing with kids, and running a food pantry.
“It was a very humbling experience,” said Bailey Walko.
St.Malachy’s service group was led by Father Matt, the church’s priest, who is a Chicago native. The service group took on tasks that the staff at St. Malachy’s did not have the time or manpower to undertake.
Service members on this trip stayed at Mount Carmel High School in South Chicago while growing in their Catholic faith and serving the Chicago community.
