VANDALIA — The Vandalia Division of Fire welcomed the newest member of its command staff on Monday morning.
Captain Steve Milliken officially joined the Vandalia Division of Fire after receiving the oath of office from City Manager Jon Crusey.
Milliken has spent the past 21 years in the City of Trotwood, the past six being the Fire and EMS Chief. Prior to Trotwood he worked for Good Samaritan Hospital, Trotwood, and the Village of West Alexandria which is also his home.
Fire Chief Chad Follick said that Milliken will take the role of the division’s Health and Safety Officer. In that role he will oversee the cancer prevention program, health and wellness, fitness, injuries and injury prevention, and safety operations.
“We are thrilled to be getting someone with Steve’s broad experience,” said Follick.
He also believes Milliken will be able to assist in recruiting firefighters and EMS personnel, an issue of concern in many area departments.
“That was one of the areas that came to the surface during the interview process,” said Follick. “He said many times that there was the opportunity to help us with recruiting. We have part-time spots to fill and a full-time spot open.”
