VANDALIA — Vandalia detectives have charged a 22-year old male with sexual imposition after a 14-year old alleged he touched her inappropriately.

Jacob Ray Cox of Vandalia was arraigned in Vandalia Municipal Court on July 20 on the misdemeanor charge and faces a hearing on August 11.

The incident report alleges that the teenager was visiting a relative and Cox groped her and touched her in multiple places. The victim resisted to which Cox allegedly told her “not to worry it would be their little secret.”

The victim left the room and Cox then followed her and touched her again. She then sent text messages to her mother asking her to pick her up immediately. The victim and her mother then reported the incident to police.

Cox voluntarily responded to the police department to be interviewed and, according to police, wrote a letter of apology to the victim.

Cox was issued a summons to appear in court and released.
