VANDALIA — The City of Vandalia will hold an Arbor Day event on Friday, April 29 at Helke Park, 888 Randler Avenue.

The public is invited to the ceremony which will be held at 1 p.m. Mayor Arlene Setzer will be on hand to read a proclamation and staff from the city’s Parks and Recreation Department will plant the tree with the help of Helke Elementary School students.

In 2015 Vandalia earned the designation of a Tree City USA. This Arbor Day event is done in conjunction with the Tree City, USA designation.

The tree will be planted in an area of the park that has been devastated by the Emerald Ash Borer.
