Smith Planetarium show to be Cosmic Jams
VANDALIA — Free shows are offered on the second Saturday of the month during the school year at the Smith Middle School Planetarium. Shows begin at 7 p.m. and are free and open to the community. Seating is on a first come-first served basis. The April show will be held on April 8 and will have the theme “Cosmic Jams: A Little Night Music.”
BPEA hosting mini-golf event
VANDALIA — The Vandalia Butler Performing Arts Association is hosting the first community-wide mini-golf event on Saturday, April 8 from 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. at Butler High School. The community is invited to play a round of mini-golf in the halls and rooms of Butler. There will be concessions, a silent auction, and raffle baskets available in the cafeteria. Tickets are $5 presale and $7 at the door.
Baskets by Dranschak on display at Library
VANDALIA — Vandalia resident Jennie Dranschak is the March Artist-in-Residence at the Vandalia Branch Library. Throughout the month visitors can see examples of chair caning and hand woven baskets during regular Library hours. Styles include Shaker, Nantucket, and Native American as well as waxed linen and pine needle basketry. On Thursdays (March 16th, 23rd, and 30th) the artist will conduct live demonstrations of basket weaving and chair caning from 6-8 p.m. Dranschak has been weaving for 34 years and wishes to keep this nearly lost art form alive. Her demonstrations are free and appropriate for all ages.
Grief, Loss, and Trauma Focus Group to meet
VANDALIA — Grief, Loss & Trauma Focus Group is an 8 week course that will provide participants with tools and strategies to handle life after it is suddenly disrupted by a loss. It will meet Wednesdays, April 5 – May 24, 6:00 pm – 7:30 pm. Location: FBC Vandalia, 140 Elva Ct., Vandalia, Room 44 Lower Level Fellowship Hall. Enjoy a morning of play with your child. A variety of play equipment will be set up in the gymnasium for children and their guardian to run, climb, jump and recreate. An adult must accompany each child or family of children. No instruction, just open play! Registration not required. Ages 1-5 years old. The cost is $4 per child per class. Artists, parade participants sought
for 44th Annual Englewood Art Festival
ENGLEWOOD – Applications from artists and parade participants for the 44th annual Englewood Art Festival, Saturday August 12, and Sunday August 13, 2017 are now being accepted by the Englewood Festival and Arts Commission. The parade is a prelude to all of the festival events and will be held Saturday August 12 at 9:00 a.m. Applications will be accepted by the parade committee through July 21st. Artists are asked to submit photos of their handmade original work for review by the Festival Exhibitors Committee. Registration deadline is June 1. Vandalia Lions Club meets twice monthly
VANDALIA — The Vandalia Lions Club holds dinner meetings on the second and fourth Thursdays of the month at the Cassel Hills Golf Clubhouse at 6:30 p.m. The club does not hold dinner meetings in July or August. Programs include speakers covering topical subjects. The speaker at the March 23 meeting will be Joe Dranschak of the Historical Society of Vandalia-Butler.
