PITTSBURGH – Vandalia-Butler Board of Education President Bruce Sucher has passed away.

According to an email from Vandalia-Butler Schools Superintendent Bradley Neavin, Sucher died from an apparent heart attack suffered during the University of Dayton A-10 tournament game in Pittsburgh.

“Mr. Sucher’s passing is an unimaginable tragedy for this family, our district, and the entire Vandalia-Butler Community,” said Neavin. “We are a tight-knit community, and we will experience this loss as any family would. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the Sucher family at this time of grief and healing.”

Sucher previously served as the Vandalia Chief of Police from 1984-1987 and City Manager from 1988-2004.
