Luken’s Pollinator project earns Eagle Scout rank

VANDALIA – Troy Luken, a Butler High School Junior and member of Boy Scout Troop 466, achieved the rank of Eagle Scout, the highest rank in Boy Scouts. This accomplishment represents years of adventure, fun, work and dedication to the Boy Scout program.

On his way to Eagle, Luken performed community service, service and leadership for his troop and learned numerous outdoor skills. He earned 34 merit badges ranging from Railroading to Emergency Preparedness to Citizenship in the World.

Luken’s Eagle service project was to plan and coordinate the building and installation of pollinator hotels and bee blocks for the Aullwood Audobon Center and Farm to increase the pollinator population in that area. The project was completed in the hot days of July, 2016 with the help from many volunteers.

Luken was formally presented the Eagle Scout award at a Court of Honor ceremony at St. Christopher’s Church on February 12.
