VANDALIA — Students at Morton Middle School were evacuated shortly before 1 p.m. on Friday afternoon after a written threat was found in a bathroom at the school. The threat was written on a piece of toilet paper, found by a student, who immediately turned it into his teacher.

Vandalia Police and Fire personnel did not find any dangerous material in the school and do not believe the threat was credible. No one was hurt in the incident.

Investigation by police and school administration revealed the student responsible. He has been suspended from school with a recommendation for expulsion and will likely face criminal charges as well.

Students were evacuated with the help of fire and police personnel to the bus garage behind the school where they sat on school buses and were supervised by Morton staff. Once the all-clear was given by emergency personnel, students were dismissed at their normal time.
