Severe weather season prompts Vandalia, Butler Township officials to urge residents to register with Hyper Reach


VANDALIA – Vandalia and Butler Township officials are again reminding residents to sign up for the Hyper Reach mass emergency notification system as we head into the severe weather season.

The system can send emergency notifications by telephone, email, text message, and social media almost instantaneously and residents can choose which type of notifications they want to receive.

Vandalia switched to the system after the tornado that struck the city on Halloween, 2013.

Vandalia and Butler Township share the cost and access to the system.

“With the proximity of Butler Township to the City, it is likely that any disaster, natural or otherwise, would affect both communities,” Follick wrote. “Having the Vandalia and Butler Township data in one database would allow us to easily send out messages to both Vandalia and Butler Township customers quickly and seamlessly.”
