VANDALIA — David Starry, Lead Pastor of Vandalia’s First Baptist Church, has been elected President of the State Convention of Baptists in Ohio for the year 2017. The election came at the 63rd Annual Meeting of the organization of Ohio churches that are part the Southern Baptist Convention.

First Baptist Church hosted the meeting under the theme “Moving Forward” on November 2.

Starry will remain in his role as Lead Pastor at the church and serve in a volunteer role that aims to connect pastors around Ohio.

“Someone has to represent pastors and churches across Ohio, and that will be my goal this year,” said Starry. “It was a pretty cool honor – I didn’t see that coming.”

Starry had previously served as the organization’s Second Vice President.

As president, he will oversee and manage structural components of pastors and churches as they work together. The Ohio Convention includes an Executive Committee and a Missions Council.

“We cooperate with our time, money, and resources to accomplish bigger things,” said Starry.

Pastor Starry’s term will run until November 2017 when the State Convention of Baptists in Ohio holds its 64th Annual Meeting at Chillicothe Baptist Church.
