VANDALIA — In honor of Fire Prevention Month, the Vandalia Division of Fire will host an open house on Sunday, October 2 from 1 – 3 p.m. at Fire Station 1, 8705 Peters Pike. The Fire Department will be celebrating its 40th anniversary.
Butler Twp. to hold energy aggregation meeting
BUTLER TWP. – Butler Township will hold an informational meeting on the energy aggregation proposal on Monday, Oct. 3 at 6:30pm at the Butler Township Meeting Hall, 3780 Little York Road. On the November ballot the community will be voting to allow Butler Township to purchase electric generation at a discounted rate.
2016 Butler Yearbooks available for pick up
VANDALIA — Any 2016 Butler graduate who ordered a 2016 yearbook may pick it up in the front office at BHS weekdays from 7 a.m. – 4 p.m. There is a limited number of extra books available to purchase for $65. Contact firstname.lastname@example.org.
Dranschak to display baskets in October
VANDALIA — For the entire month of October, the artist at the Vandalia Municipal Gallery will be Jennie Dranschak. Jennie has been a basket weaver for over 30 years. The display of basketry that will be shown will be a genre of many styles and shapes. Among those, will be Shaker, Nantucket, Native American, pine needle, sweetgrass, and coiled. There will also be information on the history of weaving, and the tools that are used in this art. The display will be held at the Vandalia Municiple Bldg,, 333 J.E. Bohanan Dr., Vandalia, Ohio during business hours, and an open house will be on Monday, October 17 from 6 – 8 p.m.
Friday night dinner offered at Marian Manor
BUTLER TWP – Marian Council Knights of Columbus 3754 is offering a Friday Night Dinner of Fellowship on Friday, October 7 from 5:30 to 7 p.m., with Rosary beginning at 5 p.m. Our menu will be: Sausage, Sauerkraut, Mashed Potato, Fried Fish and French Fries, along with sides including Salad, Coleslaw and Applesauce. Cost is $7/adult, $4 for kids 12 and under, or $20 per family. Desserts are 50 cents while they last. Marian Manor is located at 6050 Dog Leg Rd., Dayton. Receive a free 50/50 ticket when you donate two or more canned goods. All are welcome.
AARP tax aide volunteers needed
VANDALIA — If you like working with numbers and helping people, the AARP Tax Aide program may be a good fit for you. Volunteers prepare taxes at this Senior Center on Tuesdays from February through mid-April. Some volunteers also work at the Huber Heights Senior Center and at the Harrison Township Government Building. Training is provided for current IRS certification, All equipment and supplies are furnished. If interested, please contact local coordinator, Bill Lindsey, at 572-5556.
What Is It Worth?
VANDALIA – You can find out on Wednesday, October 5, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.! Paula and David Luke from Old World Jewelry at 3715 N. Main Street will be here all day. Sign up for a time slot.
They will be telling you the wholesale value for your antiques and treasures. You can just come for information or you might be able to sell your items also. They will let you know if they are interested in buying your items. You have the option to sell or you can even wait for several weeks and still get the same price if you decide later to sell.
Be prepared, just because it is old, doesn’t mean it is valuable. On the other hand, things can surprise you and be worth more than you think. They don’t want you to leave something at home that might be the most interesting item so they are not limiting how many things you can bring. If some of your items are too large or too fragile to bring, take lots of photos, especially of the details. If you have many items, they are willing to schedule a time to come to your house.
Paula and David ask that you come 15 minutes before your scheduled time. Also be patient if those before you have many items and they are running behind the schedule.
While you wait, you can enjoy come refreshments. Pam Smith from Medigold will be providing snacks from 9:00 a.m. to noon. Kristy Osting from StoryPoint of Troy will bring more treats from noon to 4:00 p.m. The refreshments are for everyone in the center on October 5.

Interactive MathAlive! exhibit coming to museum
Looking to avoid the “summer slide” with your school-age children? Make plans to check out the MathAlive! exhibit, an interactive traveling exhibit opening next month at the National Museum of the U.S. Air Force. The free 5,000-square-foot exhibit, which is underwritten by Raytheon, will be open at the museum July 23-Oct. 2. Forty immersive activities create fun experiences that bring to life the real math behind the things kids love most – video games, sports, design, music, entertainment, space and robotics.

VANDALIA — The Vandalia Lions Club holds dinner meetings on the second and fourth Thursdays of the month at the Cassel Hills Golf Clubhouse at 6:30 p.m. The club does not hold dinner meetings in July or August.
