VANDALIA — Vandalia’s Heavy Metal Remix, the 2016 Vandalia Arts Community Project, is a 10-day outdoor metal sculpture exhibit where local metal artist Doug Benedict will assemble a variety of reclaimed metal parts and scraps—large and small—to create a sculpture for permanent placement in Vandalia Art Park. Mr. Benedict will shape and construct at the park during the hours noted below between September 7 and 18, 2016. The public will be encouraged to watch daily as the sculpture takes shape.
- Wednesday through Friday 1 – 6 p.m.
- Saturday and Sunday Noon – 6 p.m.
The public may also participate by donating interesting metal objects for consideration as part of the sculpture — examples listed below. Selected citizen volunteers will aid in prep work, grinding and miscellaneous tasks. The public will also be asked to submit name suggestions for the sculpture.
If you think you have items to donate, call to arrange pickup of materials or location of drop-off site. Call C. Farst 937-898-5891 or 937-266-9066.

Vandalia Cultural Arts Program (VCAP) and Public Art in Vandalia (PAIV) have joined again to sponsor this Community Project to provide community engagement in the arts. In 2015, twenty citizens formed the individual pieces that make the two totems that sit at the entrance to the Vandalia Art Park.
