ELON, North Carolina — Samuel John Blue Hershberger graduated Cum Laude from Elon University on May 21, 2016, receiving a Bachelor of Arts degree with a major in Psychology and a minor in Business.

Elon University is located in Elon, North Carolina. It’s 6,600 students come from 50 states and 49 other nations, creating an academic community of global citizens. Elon has built a national reputation as a premier student-centered liberal arts university, preparing graduates to be ethical leaders in the world.

More than 1,300 students received degrees in ceremonies featuring an address by CNN senior political analyst David Gergen, co-director of the Center for Public Leadership at the Harvard Kennedy School.

While at Elon, Hershberger was a 4-year member of the Elon men’s basketball team. As a senior, he was a team captain and the recipient of the 2016 Coaches Award. Hershberger also was the male recipient of the Robert C. Browne Memorial Sportsmanship Award. The Browne Award is presented annually to the Elon male and female athletes who have best displayed exemplary qualities of sportsmanship as determined by the Elon Department of Athletics administrative staff.

Hershberger is a 2012 graduate of Vandalia-Butler High School and the son of Dr. Paul Hershberger and Ms. Jan Blue of Vandalia, OH. He has taken a position as a program director for Best Buddies in Albany, NY. Best Buddies is a nonprofit organization that creates opportunities for one-to-one friendships, integrated employment, and leadership development for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
