VANDALIA – Vandalia City Manager Jon Crusey spoke at the June 9 dinner meeting of the Vandalia Lions Club. Mr. Crusey discussed activities and plans of the various city departments.

The Division of Fire is focusing on safety in personnel training, cooperation with the Butler Township Fire Department resulting in average response times of only 5:14 minutes which are mostly EMS calls versus actual fires, new medic vehicle, 2015 County Crew of the Year Award for a suicide prevention call.

The Division of Police respond to over 13,000 calls per year, training including handling people with mental problems and active shooters, plus goals including individual cameras, and a broader communications network;

Other initiatives are further development of the Art Park, improved facilities and programs at the Recreation Center and Swimming Pool, Dixie Highway widening, 2016 street projects and lighting, Northwoods Blvd. traffic signal, and water tower maintenance and painting.
