FAIRBORN — Kayla Stacy, a member of the Butler Class of 2016, has been named to the Emerald Jazz dance team at Wright State University.
Over the past eight years dancing with Dance Expressions I have learned what it means to have true passion for something,” said Stacy. “I found myself through dancing and it is a way I can escape and rid myself of stress and sadness but also express my happiness and joy.”
Competition on a team will be something new for Stacy, however.
“Being a dancer has taught me a lot throughout the years and although I have never done team competing, it has still taught me responsibility, commitment and determination,” she said. “I spent my senior year of high school competitions as a soloist for dance expressions and I could not have been more grateful, because without that opportunity, I would not have had the courage to try out for the Wright State University dance team.”
Stacy thanked her mother and father, her grandmother Miss Lori Downey, Miss Mary Stephens and her boyfriend for supporting her dance career and pushing her to do her best.
“Without them, I would not have made it this far and be in the position I am in,” she said.
