Vandalia to offer free shredding, hazardous waste disposal

VANDALIA — The City of Vandalia will offer free shredding/hazardous household waste disposal on Friday, May 20 from 9 a.m. to noon in the municipal building parking lot. The event is sponsored by Spieles Insurance Agency. City staff will be on hand to help unload cars. Items accepted include paper and hazardous household waste such as batteries, light bulbs, household cleaners, paints, and vehicle fluids. Proof of Montgomery County residency must be shown to participate in the hazardous waste disposal program.

Polk Grove to hold garage sale May 13 & 14

BUTLER TWP. — Polk Grove UCC will be having a garage sale on Friday, May 13 from 9 a.m. – 4 p.m and Saturday, May 14 from 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. There will be many, many items for sale too numerous to list. Come and join in the search for your treasure. The church is located at 9190 Frederick Pike in Butler Twp. For more information contact the church office at 890-1821.

Polk Grove to hold Vacation Bible School

BUTLER TWP. – Polk Grove United Church of Christ is having “Cave Quest” Vacation Bible School June 6-10 from 9 a.m. – noon. Participants will be following Jesus, the Light of the world through the caves in Bible exploration, games, science, mission and of course song. The ages are from preschool to 5th grade. Smith Planetarium Show

BUTLER TOWNSHIP — The planetarium at Smith Middle School will hold its final show of the season on Saturday, May 21. “Planet Walking” will explore the distances in the solar system. Want to know how far to Pluto, more about the Transit of Mercury, or the newly discovered Planet 9? Wear your walking shoes and explore the Solar System. (Part of this show may be held outside weather depending).

Butler class of 1966 to hold reunion

Northmont Class of 1966 plans reunion

CLAYTON — The Planning Committee of the Northmont Class of 1966 is busy planning for their 50th class reunion the weekend of August 19, 2016. There are a number of missing classmates still needing to be reached. Canine Companions for Independence fundraiser

VANDALIA – Canine Companions for Independence is a non-profit organization that enhances the lives of people with disabilities by providing highly trained service dogs, free of charge. A fundraiser for the group presented by the Northmont Area Sales Network with the proceeds benefitting Canine Companions for Independence will be held Thursday, June 23, 2016 at the Amvets Post 99 at 1023 S. Brown School Road in Vandalia. Doors open at 6:15 p.m. with auction beginning at 7 p.m. sharp. Admission is $2 with $1 for each additional paddle. Tokens will be sold in $5 and $10 bags with each token worth 25 cents.

Englewood Art Festival seeking artists, parade participants

ENGLEWOOD — Applications from artists and parade participants for the 43rd annual Englewood Art Festival, Saturday August 13, and Sunday August 14, 2016 are now being accepted by the Englewood Festival and Arts Commission.

The parade is a prelude to all of the festival events and will take place on Union Boulevard at 9 a.m. Saturday August 13.

Artists are asked to submit photos of their handmade original work for review by the Festival Exhibitors Committee. Applications are due June 1 and can be found on the Englewood city website at www.englewood.oh.us or by calling the Earl Heck Community Center at 937-836-5929.

Summer Aerospace Camp registration now open

WPAFB – Registration for four affordable and exciting summer aerospace camps is now open at the National Museum of the U.S. Air Force. Campers who have completed grades 4-8 will be able to learn about a variety of topics through hands-on activities that incorporate history, science and math concepts, as well as team-building skills. Kiser High School Almuni Meetings

HUBER HEIGHTS — Kiser High School alumni meetings are held on the fourth Wednesday of each month (except November and December) at the American Legion Post 200 which is at 5046 Nebraska Avenue, Huber Heights. Meetings begin at 7 p.m. Graduates, attendees, and friends of Kiser High School ae welcome to attend. Please park at the rear of the building and use rear entrance.

Vandalia Lions Club meets twice monthly

VANDALIA — The Vandalia Lions Club holds dinner meetings on the second and fourth Thursdays of the month at the Cassel Hills Golf Clubhouse at 6:30 p.m. The club does not hold dinner meetings in July or August. Programs include speakers covering topical subjects. Speakers at the May 12 dinner meeting will be Tom & Dee Hail, who will discuss Conceal-Carry Handguns and related laws and Safety.

Sister Cities meets each month

VANDALIA – Sister Cities of Vandalia meets the second Wednesday of each month at the Senior Citizen’s Center on Tionda Dr. at 7 p.m. followed by a Gemuetlichkeit (social) hour.

Rotary Club of Vandalia meets on Thursdays

Mothers groups meet in Vandalia

VANDALIA — MOPS and MOMS Next meetings offer community and mothering support to mothers of children age birth through six. MOPS and MOMS Next meetings are held at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Vandalia (122 W. National Rd. in Vandalia next to Rite Aid) on the second and fourth Thursday evenings of each month from 6 – 8:15 p.m. Childcare is provided (please RSVP prior to attending to ensure enough childcare workers are available). TOPS meets in Tipp City
