TOLEDO — The 2016-17 University of Toledo cheerleading team has been selected, cheerleading coaches Nick Langenderfer and Libby Langenderfer announced today.
Butler High School seniors Lora Burris and Vinnie Fiori have both been named to the team.
In all, 15 females and 13 males made the team following tryouts last month. There is an additional tryout in August to fill the remaining spots on the team.
“Every season we try to select a group of student-athletes who will proudly represent the University on the field or court, in the classroom and in the community,” said Coach Nick Langenderfer. “This season is no different. We are excited to have so many upperclassmen returning to serve as leaders and role models for their new teammates and Rocket fans everywhere.”
Langenderfer added that Kirstey (Besgrove) Wilson has been added to the coaching staff as an assistant coach. Wilson cheered for the Rockets from 2010-14 and has since coached at the high school level.
The cheerleaders help build spirit at all home football, men’s basketball and women’s basketball games, as well as make public appearances on behalf of the University.
Fall tryouts are scheduled for Aug. 21 and 23. Please contact ToledoCheerleading@gmail.com for additional information.
