VANDALIA — Congratulations to Grace Weber, Sydney Stevens and Anna Thomas, this year’s recipients of the Helke ANGEL Award. The annual award is given to a Helke third grader who is “always willing to help, has a great attitude, is optimistic and very encouraging.”

The award is in honor of Carrie Roeth, a third grade teacher at Murlin Heights Elementary who lost her battle with cancer in July 2008.

For the first time, there were three winners. The girls were announced at a school assembly on Monday with their parents and extended family on hand to surprise the girls immediately following the big announcement.

The girls’ names will be on permanent display on the award at the school.
