VANDALIA — Vandalia-Butler’s Interact Club connected with Demmit Elementary students in their annual “Book Buddies.”
“It was a great experience for both my group and for the students,” said Allison Sugden. “The kids were very enthusiastic and fun to work with.”
Interact members went to Demmit once a week to read to the kids. The high schoolers were expected to have activities planned to go along with the book for the elementary students.
“I can remember back in elementary when I had the experience of Book Buddies as a kid,” said Austin Whisman. “The high schoolers had such a great impact on me, and I looked up to them. When I had the opportunity to participate in book buddies now, I jumped right on it and was more than excited. It’s not just about the book you read, it’s the life long impact you have on a child’s life.”
