VANDALIA — Jennifer Kadel, Branch Manager of the Vandalia Metro Library, was the featured speaker at the February 25 dinner meeting of the Vandalia Lions Club. She spoke about how the new libraries are being tailored to needs of the 21st century users.

In 2012 Montgomery County voters passed a $187 million bond issue which enabled construction of a new library in downtown Dayton, eleven new branches, and upgrading of five other branches. The cost of the new Vandalia branch, now under construction, $6 million. Kadel said all projects are currently proceeding under cost.

The Vandalia Branch is expected to open in December, 2016. The present facility occupies 9,200 square feet while the new building will contain 21,000 square feet. This will allow for separate rooms for adults, children, teens doing homework after school, plus a Community Meeting Room to accommodate over 50 people. Also featured is user-friendly Internet access, including Wi-Fi, and many outlets for Phone/I-pad/LapTop recharging.

A grand-open-house is planned in December 2016, so keep watching the newspaper for the official announcement.
