COLUMBUS – Thirty dancers from Dance Expressions Dance Studio attended the 2016 Miss Showcase of Stars pageant spectacular on January 29-30. The Vern Riffe Theatre in Columbus was the location for the two-day event.

Requirements beyond competing their routine in the Friday preliminary round were the two days of rehearsals. All ages were taught a production number that would serve as a compulsory routine for the junior and senior division dancers to be scored on should they make finals. The dancers also learned two gown modeling routines, one for finalists and one for all contestants.

Rebecca Atkinson, Reagan Downey, Zoey Grimes, Alyssa Holderman, and Brooke Stueve competed in the primary division and all were named semi-finalist. Elementary dancers awarded one of the “top spot” semi-finalist positions in a very tough division of dancers were Katie Landis, Sydney Lawler, Scarlett Mattice, Kiersten McBride, and Carlee Schroeder. In the junior division finalists were Jenna Dietz, Logan Druck, Avery Gunderson, Haleigh Gross, Kara Landis and Lindsey Viskup. Rounding out the finalists for the Gala event were senior division contestants of Torre Romano and Lauren Verdes.

Saturday night’s Gala event consisted of the production number, announcement of the semi-finalists in each division, finalists performing their solo routine for a new panel of judges, followed by the quick change into their gown for the modeling portion.

After special performances by last year’s four queens, which consisted of three of our very own; 2015 Elementary Miss Showcase Taryn Smith, Junior winner Kaylynn Buckner and Senior Miss Showcase Samantha Peters came the awards portion of the event.

Specialty awards voted on by the staff include “Cutest Villain” Zoey Grimes, the “Werkin It” award to Reagan Downey, “Fun Choreography & Entertaining Performance” went to Katie Landis, “Classic Beauty” Anna Deffet, “Life Changing Storyline” Torre Romano, Molly Armentrout was awarded “Sweet & Sassy”, Heather McBride won “Best Costume & Theme,” “Legs for Days” to Makayla Hopper & both Becca Atkinson and Brooke Stueve were acknowledged for their “Evening Wear Standouts.”
