Troy man indicted for fatal Vandalia crash

DAYTON – Prosecuting Attorney Mat Heck, Jr. announced today that 37 year old Scott Gray, of Troy, was indicted for a fatal vehicle crash in Vandalia on July 11, 2015.

During the early morning hours of July 11, 2015, the victim, 37‐year‐old Melissa Carlson, of Englewood, was a passenger in a vehicle that was struck by the defendant’s vehicle on South Dixie Drive near Crestview Drive in Vandalia. The defendant fled the scene on foot. The victim, the driver of the victim’s car, and the two passengers in the defendant’s car were all transported to the hospital.

Days after the crash, the defendant turned himself in to the Ohio State Highway Patrol. The defendant’s vehicle’s event data recorder showed the defendant’s vehicle was traveling 101 mph five seconds before the crash and 76 mph one second before the crash in a marked 35 mph zone. The defendant did not have a valid driver’s license at the time of the crash.

On September 5, 2015, the victim died as a result of the injuries she sustained in the crash.

Today, the defendant has been indicted for:

  • One count of Vehicular Homicide (driving under suspension)
  • Three counts of Failure to Stop After Accident

A warrant has been issued for the defendant’s arrest.

The defendant will be arraigned on March 10, 2016 at 8:30 a.m.
