Butler High School student dies

VANDALIA — A sophomore at Butler High School has died and is being investigated as a suicide.

Vandalia-Butler City Schools officials said that students were notified by administrators, teachers, and counselors and parents were notified by the Butler High School administration.

“It is with a heavy heart that we meet with our students at Butler High School as they begin to process their grief today. Our school community is a tight-knit one and will feel this loss as any family would,” Superintendent Brad Neavin said.

Members of the school’s Crisis Response Team are meeting with students and will continue to be available as long as necessary. Grief counselors and area clergy are also at Butler High School to meet with students.

“Our thoughts and prayers go out to the student’s family and friends at this difficult time,” the release reads.
