VANDALIA — Excursion was the winning word for Morton seventh grader Elizabeth Matheny at the 2016 Morton Spelling Bee.

Twenty students began the competition Tuesday, Jan. 19 with plenty of support from family and friends in the audience.

Three students made it to Round 11. Those finalists were Matheny, Trent Luken and Brad Seaver.

Jennifer Strehle, Morton Middle School language arts teacher, was the pronouncer/reader. Principal Shannon White and Megan Reinhart, Morton Middle School guidance counselor, served as the judges for the bee.
