DAYTON — On Friday, December 18, 2015, Montgomery County Auditor Karl Keith and County Commissioners Judy Dodge, Dan Foley and Debbie Lieberman joined the Animal Resource Center and our partners from the Humane Society of Greater Dayton and the SICSA Pet Adoption Center to kick off the “Home 4 the Holidays” campaign. This global effort, sponsored this year by Blue Buffalo, encourages people to adopt a pet from a local shelter this holiday season.

Right now, as many as 8 million animals are homeless in the United States. Through the “Home 4 the Holidays” collective group of over 4,000 pet adoption agencies, facilities and rescue-groups, this campaign has become the largest pet adoption campaign on record, saving over 10 million pets since its inception in 1999. Montgomery County is proud to be a part of the effort each and every year.

The “Home 4 the Holidays” Pet Adopt-A-Thon will take place on Saturday, December 19, 2015 at the Dayton Mall (in the JC Penney court) from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.

This is also a perfect time to buy your 2016 Montgomery County Dog License. Licenses are on sale now through February 1, 2016. Licenses are $20 for dogs that have been spayed or neutered and $24 for unaltered dogs. Keep in mind that there are exceptions made for dog breeders who have proper registration and hunters who have a valid hunting license and use their dog for hunting. In addition, dogs that are medically certified by their veterinarian as being too old or health compromised may receive the discounted rate by providing certification with their application to the Auditor’s Office.

2016 dog licenses are on sale online at www.mcohio.org/dogs, at the Montgomery County Auditor’s Office, the Animal Resource Center, other area shelters, outpost stations, and by mail. Call 937-225-4314 for more information.
