VANDALIA — There was an emotionally stirring Veteran’s Day ceremony Wednesday morning at the Vandalia VFW Post 9582.

The keynote speaker was James Fortune, a Vietnam veteran who has worked tirelessly in the arena of veteran rights.

Also in attendance were three World War II veterans who were singled out for their service: Charlie Rentz, who was part of the fighting in Iwo Jima; Richard Stoltz, who served throughout Europe during the war; and Moon Miller, who celebrated his final day as a 17 year old on a ship… firing upon Utah Beach as the opening salvo to the D-Day invasion of Normandy.

Those in attendance were humbled by the devotion, love of country, and service that these men — and all veterans — have given their country.
