VANDALIA — What has become an annual rite of summer in Vandalia will soon be here, and we’re not talking heat and humidity. Soon, National Road and N. Dixie Drive will be lined with lawn chairs in anticipation of the 37th Annual Vandalia Butler Chamber of Commerce Air Show Parade.
The parade, which kicks off Air Show weekend, will begin Friday, June 19 at 7 p.m. and proceed along National Road from St. Christopher Parish and then turn north on Dixie Drive ending at Inverness Avenue.
The Parade’s Grand Marshal is the 445th Aeromedical Evacuation Squadron from Wright Patterson Air Force Base. Accepting the Key to the City of Vandalia on behalf of the squadron will be Master Sargent Nathan Hutchison.
“We feel it is important to recognize and honor those who are putting their life on the line every day for each of our freedoms,” said Will Roberts, President/CEO of the Vandalia Butler Chamber of Commerce. This amazing group of individuals is on call 24/7 to help during the worst disasters we as a nation or world can imagine. We could not be more proud to have these great men and women be our Grand Marshals this year.”
Also featured in the parade are traditional favorites such as the Butler High School marching band, Butler Kickline and Guard, the Wee Aviators football teams and cheer-leading squads, and police and fire units from both Vandalia and Butler Township.
Staging for the parade will begin at 5:30 p.m. Please be aware of road restrictions and traffic pattern changes that will allow only parade participants and parade vehicles to access James Bohanan Dr. beginning at 5 p.m. Friday evening.
Additionally, semi-truck traffic will be prohibited on National Road along the parade route beginning at 5 p.m. per signs posted on the exit ramps from I-75 to National Road.
Residents of the Skyview subdivision will be able to enter and exit the development through the Marview Dr. gate at Delphi throughout the parade. This will be the only entry and exit point for the development beginning at 6:45 p.m. until the parade has ended at approximately 9:30 p.m.
