BUTLER TOWNSHIP — A Vandalia man has been indicted for having sex with an teen-aged girl.

Michael P. Whitecar, 22, is currently incarcerated in the Montgomery County Jail after Butler Township arrested him on October 8. His bond has been set at $25,000 by Vandalia Municipal Court Judge Cynthia Heck.

Whitecar is accused of having unlawful sexual conduct with a minor, a fourth degree felony. If convicted, Whitecar faces up to a year in prison and a fine up to $5,000. He could also be required to register as a sex offender.

According to the Butler Township Police incident report, the case stems from an incident that allegedly occurred this past summer.

The suspect met the 14-year old girl last spring when he was helping coach the girl’s softball team. The girl started talking to Whitecar through Facebook and “continued to hang out as friends.” Whitecar then sent the girl a text “asking if she liked him as more than a friend.” The girl said she did.

The relationship continued through the spring and summer and eventually led to the alleged sexual misconduct.

The victim’s mother found out about the incident from the mother of a friend of the victim, and she contacted police.

Whitecar was indicted on Monday by the Montgomery County Grand Jury and will be arraigned on October 22.
