Vandalia crime statistics – August

VANDALIA — The Vandalia Division of Police responded to 1,267 calls for service in August, 981 which were citizen initiated and 286 which were officer initiated. The department received 199 calls to 911.

The top reasons for calls were misdemeanor theft (12), felony theft (10), burglary/breaking and entering (10), and assault (8).

Vandalia police officers made a total of 57 arrests in July, 38 for misdemeanors, five juvenile, and 14 felony arrests.

Police made 443 traffic stops in July and issued citations in 85 stops, written warnings in 294, verbal warnings in 51, and other dispositions in 13. Officers have issued 2,398 written traffic warnings in 2015, a 24% increase over a year ago.

During the stops that resulted in citations and/or arrests, six were for OVI, 49 were for speeding, six were parking violations, and 96 were not categorized on the report.

Police responded to 27 vehicular accidents, 22 that had property damage and five that resulted in injuries. Traffic accidents with injuries are up 85% in 2015 compared to last year.

Police also responded to 73 alarms in July, 59 business alarms and 14 residential alarms.
