VANDALIA — A 16-year old driver with a learner’s permit drove into the plate glass window at Ken’s Pharmacy on Sunday afternoon. No one was injured and Ken’s Pharmacy is open for business as usual.
The incident occurred around 2:45 Sunday afternoon when the teenager and her mother pulled into a parking place in front of the store. The teen’s mother told police that her daughter accidentally pressed the accelerator instead of the brake pedal.
“Thank God no one was hurt,” said Ken Farst, owner of the pharmacy. “I had just had an employee sitting in that area an hour before. We were lucky, it could have been worse.”
In a twist, Farst said that the driver is a friend of the family.
“It’s kind of ironic that she is a friend of my granddaughter,” he said. “I think she just panicked.”
Members of the Vandalia Division of Fire responded and cleaned up most of the glass and checked for injuries.
There were no citations issued in the incident.
