VANDALIA — Alexander Shook, a member of Boy Scout Troop 307, recently completed an Eagle Project that will benefit park goers for years to come. Shook built a bridge to span a small stream at Englewood MetroPark.

Shook built the bridge near a site known as Oaks Falls. The falls are named after the family of Albert and Mary Oaks who lived on and farmed in the area from the early 1930s until the mid 1970s. The farmstead was located slightly east of the site of the falls and soon to be completed footbridge.

The Oaks are Shook’s maternal great-great grandparents and his maternal grandparents, Coral Oaks and Ralph Reeder, were married at the site in February 1936.

10 volunteers and one MetroParks staff member assisted Shook with the project.

Alex Shook is the son of Raymond and Marlene Shook and a member of Troop 307 which meets at St. John’s Lutheran Church. He has been a member of Pack and Troop 307 for over nine years.
