Hansgen highlights 2014 UD basketball tourney run

VANDALIA — Larry Hansgen, the host of Miami Valley’s Morning News on WHIO Radio and the play-by-play voice of University of Dayton basketball, spoke at the Rotary Club of Vandalia on Aug. 13.

Hansgen told Rotarians that there is a difference between working for a living and having a life’s work and said that the difference is drastic.

“I have a passion for what I do,” he said.

He said that he gets up at 2:20 a.m. and that the most productive time of his day is 3:30 to 5 a.m. before he starts the morning show. He said he knows who the listeners are.

Hansgen also discussed the success of recent UD basketball teams, especially the 2014 Elite 8 UD squad. He was so impressed with that team that he wrote a 64 page softcover book “True Team: The Dayton Flyers’ Run to the Elite Eight.” The book highlights early successes in Maui, a rough January, and the run that culminated in the NCAA tournament.
