Suspect taken into custody in Vandalia standoff

Virgil D. Pack, 36, was arrested after a standoff at the Super 8 Motel in Vandalia Tuesday evening.

VANDALIA – Police have arrested Virgil D. Pack, 36, on multiple warrants after a a standoff at the Super 8 Motel on National Road Tuesday night.

He is currently in the Montgomery County Jail on two charges of having weapons while under disability, felonies of the third degree, and parole violation. More charges are expected to be filed by Vandalia police and possibly Moraine.

Vandalia police were dispatched to the motel around 7:30 Tuesday night after Moraine police contacted them regarding Pack and their suspicion that he was at the motel. Vandalia police made a traffic stop on a vehicle and found two persons in the vehicle who said they knew the suspect and believed he was at the hotel.

Close to an hour went by before Pack admitted that he was the suspect police were searching for. He surrendered around 10:15 after talking with him via text messages and phone calls.

Vandalia Police Lt. Kurt Althouse said via email that a press release with more information will be released on Wednesday. Vandalia police are expected to charge Pack on charges related to the standoff.
