BUTLER TOWNSHIP — Butler Township police have arrested a man for the alleged rape of a young girl.

Robert P. Maranger, 48, of Stoughton, Wisconsin, was arrested Friday afternoon at the Quality Inn and Suites on Maxton Road.

Police were dispatched to the hotel at 4:38 p.m. and after initial investigation determined probable cause existed to charge Maranger in the sex offense against a juvenile under 10 years of age.

Prosecutors reviewed the case with detectives and approved one charge of rape, a first degree felony, and seven charges of gross sexual imposition, third degree felonies, against Maranger.

Maranger was arraigned in Vandalia Municipal Court on Monday morning. He remains incarcerated in the Montgomery County Jail with a bond set at $2 million according to court records.

The case remains under investigation according to a press release by the Butler Township Police Department.
