Helke students honor Veterans

First grade students at Helke Elementary School waved flags to the Stars and Stripes Forever during the school’s Veteran’s Day program on Friday.

VANDALIA — Helke Elementary students honored Veteran’s on Friday morning during its annual Veteran’s Day program.

After a welcome by Principal Brian Tregoning, Owen Colton led the audience in the Pledge of Allegiance. Students and the audience then sang the Star Spangled Banner.

First grade students waved flags to the Stars and Stripes Forever; the second grade students performed The Army Goes Rolling Along and Anchors Aweigh; third grade students performed the U.S. Air Force song and the Marine Hymn.

The program ended with students singing This Land is Your Land along with third grade soloists Gabby Leonard, Sebastian Howe, and Kandice Washburn.

A slide show was shown with family members of students in the military.
