BUTLER TWP. — On the morning of Friday, November, 10, 2017, a Veteran’s Day ceremony was held for students and staff at Smith Middle School. Members from VFW Post 9582 showed the audience how to fold an American flag and a speaker commented on the meanings of the folds. The post members also selected two students and worked with them to fold another flag.

A student who won a recent patriotic poem contest in the school read their poem to the audience. One of the school parents, Lt. Colonel Shawn Hayes-Davis USA, Ret., spoke to the audience about the military and answered many questions from the students.

Two Butler High School Marching Band trumpeters closed the ceremony by playing Taps. One of the Butler students is an Eagle Scout from BSA Troop 466 and the other trumpeter is a Life Scout from BSA Troop 307.
