Man killed in Butler Township fire is identified

Kermit D. Walkup, 77, was killed in a house fire in the 500 block of Little York Road on Saturday evening. His wife was transported to Miami Valley Hospital and is expected to recover.

BUTLER TWP. — A 77 year old man has been identified as the man who died in house fire in the 500 block of Little York Road on Saturday night.

Kermit D. Walkup was identified by the Montgomery County Coroner’s Office on Monday afternoon. The cause and manner of death is listed as pending.

Butler Township Fire Chief Dan Alig confirmed the body of the man was found inside the house. When fire departments from Butler Township, Vandalia, Clayton, and Harrison Township arrived flames were seen coming through the roof. Crews could not immediately enter the structure.

The fire was reported to dispatchers just before 10:30 p.m.

The Walkup’s wife was found outside the home and taken to Miami Valley Hospital with unspecified injuries.
